Yesterday in Relief Society (oh wow, that feels old...) we watched a Mormon Message that I love. You'll have to watch it to get the full message--I can't possibly do it justice--but I want to share a quote from it that really struck me yesterday:
"Thank you for loving me enough to cut me down."
Sometimes we focus so much on blaming God for sending us trials that we forget that He knows exactly what we need to be, and that by giving us these trials He is allowing us to grow into that person. I want to change my perspective on my trials and learn to thank my Heavenly Father for loving me enough to let me suffer and become the person he wants me to be.

Today I was blessed to have the chance to teach my Laurels class. Actually, it really was the chance to share a few thoughts and let them teach me! In preparation for today, I found a talk by Sister Beck, a former member of the General Young Women's Presidency, that I really liked. Here are two quotes that I absolutely loved:
“. . . you are literally spirit daughters of Deity, “offspring of exalted parents” with a divine nature and an eternal destiny. You received your first lessons in the world of spirits from your heavenly parents. You have been sent to earth to “prove” yourselves."
“You are in a season of your life when you are making some of your most important decisions. Because you are being bombarded with so many incorrect messages about who you are, you need some additional guidance. You can learn more about your life and mission on earth and the light that is in you by preparing to receive and then studying your patriarchal blessing."
I loved these quotes because they took the words right out of my mouth! If there is anything that I want to pound into a tall girl's brain, it's that she has a Heavenly Father who loves her beyond belief! And if there is anything that can accomplish that, it's a patriarchal blessing. So please, dear friends, if you don't have your blessing, get it as soon as you can! Please don't wait for the adversary to try and convince you that you're worthless one more time. Let your Heavenly Father tell you how much He loves you and what he has in store for you instead! I promise you it will bless your life, and help you see “what Heaven sees in you."

I love President Uchtdorf. I also love the Nauvoo Pageant. But do you know what I love even better? President Uchtdorf quoting the Nauvoo Pageant! (or at least, the same concept!) In October of 2012, President Uchtdorf quoted a poet whose words were adapted into a song used in a vignette that accompanies the Nauvoo Pageant. The song goes:
"One life, one line, one generation of light. One Father, one family, beloved in His sight. So we come with clouds of glory from a place we all have been. Each one must write his story on this journey of no beginning and no end."
-Our Story Goes On
Elder Uchtdorf then goes on to say:
"Our Heavenly Father sees our real potential. He knows things about us that we do not know ourselves. He prompts us during our lifetime to fulfill the measure of our creation, to live a good life, and to return to His presence . . . As sons and daughters of our Heavenly Father, we are capable of so much more . . . We must become what Heavenly Father wants us to be."
I love this because our loving Heavenly Father really does know who we are. He also knows what we are capable of becoming--like Him. He is so involved in our lives, if we will only look for Him. To read the rest of President Uchtdorf's talk, click here! Have a wonderful week!

“In
each of [their] stories, Cinderella, Belle, and the miller’s daughter have to
experience sadness and trial before they can reach their “happily ever after.”
Think about it. Has there ever been a person who did not have to go through his
or her own dark valley of temptation, trial, and sorrow? Sandwiched between
their “once upon a time” and “happily ever after,” they all had to experience
great adversity. Why must all experience sadness and tragedy? Why could we not
simply live in bliss and peace, each day filled with wonder, joy, and love?
“In
stories, as in life, adversity teaches us things we cannot learn otherwise.
Adversity helps to develop a depth of character that comes in no other way. Our
loving Heavenly Father has set us in a world filled with challenges and trials
so that we, through opposition, can learn wisdom, become stronger, and
experience joy.”
-
Dieter F. Uchtdorf
I love this quote! First of all, I'm somewhat obsessed with fairy tales, so I appreciated the references. :) Secondly, I love it because of the hope it gives me! I know that all we go through in this life is to make us better than we ever thought we could be, and so that we can fully appreciate our own "happily ever after!" So when you're having a bad day, just remember that you too are a princess (or prince), and that you're heading for your spectacular end.
